Metro Bank to Teach Thousands of Children the Importance of Saving

Deadline to register your classroom for ‘National Teach Children to Save Day’ visits: March 13

HARRISBURG, Pa. (February 16, 2015) — Metro Bank will celebrate National Teach Children to Save Day the week of April 24 by visiting thousands of local kindergarten and first grade students to offer free lessons on the importance of saving.

Metro Bank team members who are trained instructors of Metro Money Sense, the Bank’s free financial education program, will provide lessons about the importance of saving, as well as the benefits of saving money in a bank and creating a plan to save. Children will apply these concepts through games and other hands-on activities during the lessons.

“We are thrilled to continue our commitment to financial education through the National Teach Children to Save campaign,” said Metro Bank Chairman, President and CEO Gary Nalbandian. “In 2014, we reached more than 2,500 students in nearly 30 schools by teaching 111 classes during this extraordinary week. We look forward to building upon this success to help even more children learn that it is never too early to start saving for your future.”

Instructors from Metro Bank are available to visit schools within the Bank’s footprint of Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties.

Educators who are interested in scheduling a day for a Metro Bank representative to visit their classroom can contact the Bank at metromoneysense@mymetrobank.com. The deadline to register for National Teach Children to Save Day is March 13.

In addition to Metro Bank’s participation in National Teach Children to Save Day, the Bank provides free financial education classes and activities year-round for K-12 grade students through Metro Money Sense. Metro Money Sense lesson plans are tailored to grade levels with topics ranging from basic principles of money and saving for elementary students to responsible use of credit for teens.
