Metro Bank’s Lauren Kohr and Zachary Miller Earn Elite ‘CAMS-FCI’ Certification

HARRISBURG, Pa. (December 19, 2014) — Metro Bank’s Lauren Kohr, assistant vice president and Anti-Money Laundering/Bank Secrecy Act/Office Foreign Asset Control (AML/BSA/OFAC) director, and Zachary Miller, Anti-Money Laundering and Bank Secrecy Act (AML/BSA) operations manager, recently earned the Certified Advanced Financial Crimes Investigations Specialist (CAMS-FCI) credential from the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).

The ACAMS is the largest international membership organization dedicated to enhancing the knowledge, skills and expertise of Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) and financial crime detection and prevention professionals. The organization’s CAMS-FCI designation is an advanced-level certification in the AML and financial crime prevention community and is considered the highest designation within the discipline.

The certification equips professionals with the essential knowledge to detect, report, and prevent illicit activity, including drug and human trafficking, terrorist financing, trade-based money laundering and other complex money laundering schemes. Furthermore, the certification helps professionals effectively protect their institutions from the risks associated with financial crime.

Kohr and Miller are now among an elite group who has achieved the CAMS-FCI designation.

Before becoming a CAMS-FCI candidate, an individual must first become a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS). Once accepted into the program, students study, research, and attend a series of pre-class webinars. They also participate in a three-day live program consisting of lecture, discussion, and group exercises. The program culminates with the publication of a white paper the candidate authors on an approved topic related to the advanced certification.

"The CAMS-FCI certification is a major achievement," said Metro Bank Chief Risk Officer Steve Cribbs. "The additional expertise Lauren and Zach have gained through the program further strengthens the corporate governance and risk management culture we value at Metro Bank.

This fall, Kohr and Miller used their advanced certifications to present on topics related to financial crimes and investigations in front of an international audience during ACAMS 13th Annual AML & Financial Crime Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kohr has been with Metro Bank for three years and has eight years of experience in the financial industry. She is responsible for the continued development, execution and compliance of the Bank’s AML/BSA/OFAC program. She has been CAMS certified since 2013 and a Certified Fiduciary and Investment Risk Specialist (CFIRS) since 2009. Kohr is a resident of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and holds a degree in accounting from Arizona State University.

Miller has been with Metro Bank’s AML/BSA department for five years. He is responsible for managing the AML investigations, EDD, CTR operations, OFAC operations and AML business systems areas which includes providing oversight, direction and guidance to the AML team and interacting with law enforcement, regulatory and audit personnel. Miller has been CAMS certified since 2011. A graduate of York College of Pennsylvania, he resides in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
